House Targaryen (ASoIaF)
Fire and Blood. The lost prince returns. King Aegon Targaryen lands at Griffin’s Roost with the Golden Company at his back, claiming the Iron Throne as the rightful heir. With balanced Targaryen troops and the elite Dragon Guard, the dragon banner rises once more.
House Targaryen is an emergent faction and a major power found within Westeros after completing ‘The Message’ quest for Lord Varys. Their leader is King Aegon Targaryen, the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.
Their sigil is a three-headed dragon breathing flames on a field of black. Their motto is “Fire and Blood.” Their motto comes from the Valyrian ability to bind and use dragons, and the blood they spill with them.
Their map colour is blood red.
Religion
Most of the Targaryens are Westerosi and worship the Seven-Faced God, more commonly referred to as the Faith of the Seven.
Members of the Faith worship the Seven Who Are One, a single deity with seven aspects or faces. For the less educated, however, this concept is often difficult to grasp, causing them to often believe that there are indeed seven different gods. Depending on their need, worshippers pray to specific faces of the Seven.
Location
The Targaryen incursion into Westeros starts with the castle of Griffin’s Roost. A small bastion in the Stormlands, perched up on a mountain, with forests surrounding it and the sea to the west. The Targaryen forces will gather their strength and likely head north to take King’s Landing proper.

The Crownlands is a balanced kingdom. They aren’t superior to most of the Seven Kingdoms, but no worse off. Their equipment is lacklustre, however, mostly consisting of chainmail and leather. Crownlands archers are equipped with longbows and can cut bloody swathes in volley fire.

Dragon Guard
- Dragon Guard can be recruited from the NPC named Illyrio Mopatis at his mansion near Pentos if starting people is Valyrian AND if renown is high enough. [Here is a link for the location of Illyrio’s Manse]
- The Dragon Guard are one of the most elite heavy cavalry units in the game. They serve as devastating heavy shock cavalry.
Recruiting Targaryen Troops
In order to recruit Targaryen units from villages you own as an independent kingdom, you will need to select a Valyrian race on character creation. Targaryen units may also be recruited from fiefs owned by King Aegon Targaryen (see Varys’s Quests). Additional ways to recruit Targaryen units are to rescue them from enemy lords’ parties, find them in taverns, or rescue them from enemy garrisons.
