Unique Starting People/Heritage Based Troops
Unique Troops
In AWOIAF there are multiple special troops that need certain criterias to be recruited. The troops in this section can only be recruited if the players starting people/ethnicity/heritage is the same as where the unit's from, so choose wisely because once you choose you can't change your heritage, a new game has to be made.
Most of these units are the best of the best, the only competition of those troops is between the other heritage elite troops.
The player can recruit the following special elite units.
Essos
Qohor
The player can recruit the following special, elite troops if Qohor is chosen as the starting people:
-Black Goat Champion can be recruited from the NPC Carolus Salinas located in Qohor if starting people is Qohor AND if renown is high enough (between 750-1,000 renown). It costs 10,000 stags and 14 days to get 5 Black Goat Champions.
-The Black Goat Champion is one of the most elite infantry unit in the game. Devastating with their throwing spears. Black Goat Champions are equipped with military hammers which are useful for knocking enemy troops unconscious and taking them prisoner.
-Their weakness is their medium shield hitpoints and medium body armor.
Dothraki
The player can recruit the following special, elite troops if Dothraki is chosen as the starting people:
-Dothraki Screamers can be recruited from Dothraki horse master located in Ashefa Athaozar if starting people is Dothraki AND if renown is high enough (between 750-1,000 renown). It costs 10,000 stags and 14 days to get 5 Dothraki Screamers.
-The Dothraki Screamer is one of the most elite horse archer unit in the game. Excellent at horse archery before charging in with Arakhs.
-Their weakness is medium armor and low hitpoints on cavalry
Volantis
The player can recruit the following special, elite troop if Volantis is chosen as the starting people:
-Tiger Cloak Blood Guard can be recruited from the NPC named Mehdi Vaelgaeron located in Valysar if starting people is Volantis AND if renown is high enough (at least 750 renown). It costs 10,000 stags and 14 days to get 5 Blood Guards.
-Blood Guard is one of the best elite ranged unit in the game. Can deliver devastating volleys with their warbows, able to pierce through shields dealing some damage through them!
-Their weakness compared to its counterpart (Riverlands Ranger Guard) is having a bit worse proficiency.
Valyrian
The player can recruit the following special, elite troops if Valyrian is chosen as the starting people:
-Dragon Guard can be recruited from the NPC named Illyrio Mopatis at his mansion near Pentos if starting people is Valyrian AND if renown is high enough (at least 900 renown). It costs 10,000 stags and 14 days to get 5 Dragon Guards.

-The Dragon Guard is one of, if not the most elite heavy cavalry unit in the game. Serves as immensely devastating heavy shock cavalry. They have the highest proficiency in one-handed out of all other elite cavalry troops. They only possess a swords and shield
-Their weakness is having lower leg armor compared to the other elite heritage cavalry units.
Westeros
The Free Folk
The player can recruit the following special, elite troops if Free Folk is chosen as the starting people:
Giant
-Giants can be recruited from NPC named Mortik located in Frostfang's Camp if starting people is Free Folk AND if renown is high enough (between 750-1,000 renown). Giants can be upgraded to either Giant Archer or Giant Skull Crusher. Giant Skull Crusher can be upgraded to Giant Champion.
-The Giant is one of the best infantry unit in the game, with disgustingly high armor they are easily the heaviest units in the game. They use clubs which knock out opponents
-Their weakness is that they lack good head armor (until highest upgrade in troop tree), swinging their weapons very slowly and moving very slowly aswell.
Wildling Cheiftain Guard
-Wildling Chieftain Guard can be recruited from NPC named Alaric Wolfsbane located in Fist of the First Men if starting people is Free Folk AND if renown is high enough (between 750-1,000 renown).
Thenn Cheiftain Elite Guard
-Thenn Chieftain Elite guard can be recruited from NPC named Fritigern located in Thenn if starting people is Free Folk AND if renown is high enough (between 750-1,000 renown).
The Riverlands
The player can recruit the following special, elite troops if Riverland's is chosen as the starting people:
-Riverlands Ranger Guard can be recruited from the NPC named Andrew Horgen located in Riverrun if starting people is Riverland's AND if renown is high enough (900 renown). It costs 12,000 stags and 14 days to get 10 Riverlands Ranger Guards.
-Riverlands Ranger Guard is easily one of the best elite ranged unit in the game. Can deliver devastating volleys with their longbows and being able to demolish with their two-handed bastard swords if the enemy gets too close.
-Their weakness is having medium head armor compared to its counterpart (Blood Guard).
The Vale
The player can recruit the following special, elite troops if Vale is chosen as the starting people:
-Vale Knight of the Gate can be recruited from NPC named Justin Jonsson located in the Eyrie if starting people is the Vale AND if renown is high enough (between 750-1,000 renown). It costs 10,000 stags and 14 days to get 5 Knight of the Gate troops.
-Vale Knight of the Gate is one of the most elite heavy cavalry unit in the game. Serve as devastating heavy shock cavalry. They have access to a sword, shield and lance.
-Their weakness is having one of the lowest armor out of the heavy elite cavalry.
The Westerlands
The player can recruit the following special, elite troops if Westerlands is chosen as the starting people:
-Lion Guard can be recruited from NPC named Marek Ward located in Casterly Rock if starting people is Westerlands AND if renown is high enough (at least 1 000 renown). It costs 10,000 stags and 14 days to get 5 Lion Guard troops.
-The Lion Guard are one of, if not the most elite heavy cavalry unit in the game. Serve as devastating heavy shock cavalry. They have the highest body and leg armor out of all the elite heavy cavalry. They only have access to a sword and shield.
Dragonstone
The player can recruit the following special, elite troops if Dragonstone is chosen as the starting people:
-Dragonstone Champion can be recruited from NPC Ross Jonsson located in Driftmark if starting people is Dragonstone AND if renown is high enough (between 750-1,000 renown). It costs 10,000 stags and 14 days to get 5 Dragonstone Champions.
-The Dragonstone Champion is one of the most elite heavy shock unit in the game. Serve as devastating heavy shock infantry. Dragonstone Champions are equipped with spiked maces which are useful for knocking enemy troops unconscious and taking them prisoner.
-Their weakness is having a low variety of weapons and pretty low head armor.
The Reach
The player can recruit the following special, elite troops if The Reach is chosen as the starting people:
-Stormlands House Knight can be recruited from the NPC Clayton Horgan located in Old Town if starting people is The Reach AND if renown is high enough (between 750-1,000 renown). It costs 10,000 stags and 14 days to get 5 Reach Champions.
-The Reach Champion is one of the most elite heavy cavalry/shock infantry unit in the game. They spawn in with heavy horse or on foot with only a greatsword. This makes them a very high variety unit
-Their weakness is having no shield
The Stormlands
The player can recruit the following special, elite troops if Stormlands is chosen as the starting people:
-Stormlands House Knight can be recruited from NPC named Jon Irenicus located in Storms End if starting people is Stormlands AND if renown is high enough (between 750-1,000 renown). It costs 10,000 stags and 14 days to get 5 Stormlands House Knights.
-The Stormlands House Knight is one of the most elite heavy cavalry unit in the game. Serve as devastating heavy shock cavalry. Stormlands House Knight's are equipped with spiked maces which are useful for knocking enemy troops unconscious and taking them prisoner. They have access to a sword, shield and lance.
-Their weakness is having one of the lowest body armor out of the heavy elite cavalry.
Dorne
The player can recruit the following special, elite troops if Dorne is chosen as the starting people:
-Dornish Houseguard can be recruited from a NPC in the Lord's Hall of Sunspear if starting people is Dorne AND if renown is high enough (between 750-1,000 renown). It costs 10,000 stags and 14 days to get 5 Dornish House Guards.
-Dornish Houseguard is one of the most powerful glaive wielding troop in the game.
-Their Weakness is having a low variety of weapons.
