Unique Troops

In AWOIAF there are multiple special troops that need certain criterias to be recruited. The troops in this section can only be recruited if the player directly governs the town/castle in which they reside (except Unsullied).

Some of the troops do not have troop trees and are right from the recruitment elite troops.

Whilst others are upgradeable and as such are more basic/weak as they are recruited, but can become elite once they reach higher in their respective trees.

The player can recruit the following special, basic/elite troops.

Essos

Unsullied

Unsullied

-Unsullied can be bought freely from the Good Master located in the Qohor Tavern at 50 Unsullied for 75,000 stags and have a weekly wage of 0 stags. This makes them a great investment if they're gonna stick around.

-You do not need to own Qohor in order to recruit unsullied.

-Unsullied are one of the most elite spearmen units in the game. Excellent weapon skills and added bonus of skirmishers but lacks heavy armor. Very formidable in a shieldwall.

Holy Champion

Holy Champion

-Norvos Holy Champions can be recruited from the NPC Varyros Marirah in The Temple of the Bearded Priests. The Temple of the Bearded Priests is north of Norvos. Here is a link for the location of Temple of the Bearded Priests

-Norvos Holy Champions are one of the most elite shock units in the game. Effective shock force, particularly against cavalry.

-It costs 5,000 stags to get 2 Holy Champions.

Volantine Elephant Rider

-The Volantine Elephant Rider is the only heavy horse archer unit in the game. With their with heavy elephant combined with a bow that does piercing damage they pack-a-punch.

-Their weakness is low leg armor and slow cavalry

Myrish Slave Warrior

Myrish Slave Warrior

-Myrish Slave Warriors can be recruited in bulk (20 men) in Myr.

-Myrish Slave Warriors are featured in the Myr tree, however it is more efficient to buy these warriors, not having to train them yourself. Decent spearmen.

Faceless Man

Faceless Man

-Faceless Man can be recruited from the Temple of Black and White in Braavos.

-Faceless Man are elite archery units who can also hold their own in melee combat. However, Faceless Men do not have shields and thus are more vulnerable to ranged, cavalry, and heavy infantry units.

-Their bows do cutting damage which makes them a lot worse compared to the other elite archer units.

Sealord Guard

Sealord Guard

-Sealord Guards can be recruited from the Master-at-Arms in Braavos.

-Sealord Guard are elite infantry. Excellent 'bodyguard' units.

Westeros

White Harbour Knight

-White Harbour Knights are a strong cavalry unit for the North. Excellent as a shock force or to chase fleeing enemies.

-Knights are very rare in the North since they need to hold holy vows which people from the North typically don't do.

Kraken Guard

Kraken Guard

-Kraken Guard can be recruited from the Master-at-Arms in Pyke.

-The Kraken Guard are one of the most elite infantry units in the game.

-They have one of the best shields in the game, making them absolutely devastating in a shieldwall. They also possess throwable axes and with their throwing proficiency being so high this makes them deadly against every foe.

Tyrell House Guard

Tyrell House Guard

-Tyrell House Guard can be recruited from the Master-at-Arms in Highgarden.

-Very similar to the Tarly House Guard these troops have better body armor and have access to both a spear and sword. They take some time until they switch to their sword in close combat however.

-It costs 6,000 stags for 10 Tyrell House Guards.

Tarly House Guard

Tarly House Guard

-Tarly House Guard can not be recruited, only rescued or recruited after having taken as prisoner.

-The Tarly House Guard are one of, if not the most elite heavy infantry units in the game.

-They are a low variety unit since they only possess a sword and shield, but they excell at their field of combat which is holding lines and staying alive. Devastating in a shieldwall.
