Dothraki
The Screamers of the Great Grass Sea. The Dothraki are fierce horse-mounted nomads led by Khal Pono, who know no equals in open battle. With lightning raids, unmatched speed, and elite horse archers, they strike terror into every army of Essos.
The Dothraki are a minor faction found within Essos and are led by Khal Pono.
The horse-riders of the Dothraki Sea do not have a ‘motto,’ however, they use various guttural sounds to frighten their enemies.
Their map colour is brown.
History
Following the “Doom of Valyria,” the Dothraki came screaming out of the Dothraki Sea with a vengeance. The Dothraki laid waste to cities of Qarth, Slaver’s Bay, Ibben, and Lhazar and all but annihilated the Kingdom of Sarnor. The Dothraki are fierce horse-mounted nomadic warriors that know no equals.
The Dothraki have a few advantages over their more civilised enemies that help them achieve victory. First, the Dothraki can live off the land except in areas of desert, snow, and ghost grass where they will require provisions. They also scare the majority of the enemies they face, giving them an initial advantage on the battlefield that can rapidly turn a battle into a rout in their favour.
Religion
The Dothraki in A World of Ice and Fire do not have their religion featured, so they worship no religion. The Dothraki in the lore, however, worship a deity known as the Great Stallion.
Location
This particular Khalasar (clan) is situated between a fork in a river, far to the west in Essos. Their most immediate neighbour is Qohor to the north; they have tried and failed to raid these strange men, and lost. They also ‘share’ a vague border with the cities of Volantis to the south-west. The Dothraki are at war with the zealots of Norvos, and can often be seen slaughtering the devout and sacking their cities. Some Khals and Bloodriders can be found as far east as Pentos, receiving ‘gifts’ (bribes under any other word) to not raid the Free Cities.

Troop Tree
The Dothraki are renowned horde riders and raiders; their tree is based around mobility and lightning strikes. All their units (besides the first few recruits) are equipped with a horse. Don’t let the armourless warriors fool you; the riders are incredibly fast, and their horses are unmatched. The best use of this army is to have your horse archers follow you, skirting as the warriors charge.
Strengths
- One of two horse archer units available in factions.
- Access to horses from a low tier.
- Uses one of the fastest horses in the game.
Weaknesses
- Very low variety of troop types.
- Low armour; though since they are mainly horse archers, it isn’t very noticeable.
- No helmets.

Unique, Heritage-Based Troops
Dothraki Screamers
- Dothraki Screamers can be recruited from the Dothraki horse master located in Ashefa Athaozar if starting people is Dothraki AND if renown is high enough (at least 1,000 renown). It costs 10,000 stags and 14 days to get 5 Dothraki Screamers.
- Dothraki Screamers are one of the most elite horse archery units in the game. Excellent at horse archery before charging in with arakhs.
