Lys
The Pleasure City. Lys is a stunning island of old Valyrian blood, famed for its pillow houses, rare poisons, and mercenary fleets. Beneath the beauty lies one of the weaker powers of Essos, trading in wine, tapestries, and bed slaves while leaving war to hired swords.
History
Amongst the most stunning destinations of the known world, Lys is a fertile small island locked into the stormy blue-green waters of the Summer Sea. Lys’s population is rich in the blood of old Valyria, leaving them with the pale skin, silver-gold hair, and purple, lilac, and pale blue eyes of the dragonlords of old. While shrouded in beauty, Lys is perhaps one of the weakest powers of Essos.
Lys’s economy focuses on the creation of bed slaves, wine, tapestries, and poison. While these things can demand high prices at many markets, their value can rapidly fluctuate depending on their need. While traders can still make their fortunes selling items from Lys, they may have to go further than anticipated.
Lys does maintain a sizable fleet, which is a merchant marine and acts as slave hunters to keep fresh slaves pouring into the city. Like most of the nine Free Cities of Essos, Lys prefers to leave the fighting to mercenaries, which makes it a potential employment opportunity should it go to war.
