Dorne
Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken. The southernmost kingdom of Westeros, a land of deserts, spices, and fierce independence. Dorne has never been conquered and stands ready to avenge old wrongs.
History
Dorne is an age-old kingdom that has never actually been forcefully conquered, except by the Andals. When the Targaryens invaded their deserts, they were never able to hold onto the territory, even losing one of their dragons in the process. Eventually a treaty was signed between the Dornish and the Targaryens, meaning that Dorne was finally inducted into the Seven Kingdoms by their own choice. This, alongside a book written by a Targaryen king that exaggerated their military size, makes Dorne a kingdom that is viewed as almost unconquerable.
Dorne has been a supplier of rare and exotic goods throughout the world for a long time, the Dornish people being viewed as different from most of the other kingdoms. Because they are seen as different due to their culture and views, many kingdoms and people tend to hold a stigma against them. Though even if these kingdoms have a prejudice against the Dornish, it does not seem to stop them from purchasing rare and expensive wines from Dorne, exported by rich and powerful merchants. Due to their exports, the Dornish are a very rich people in comparison to the other kingdoms, surpassed only by The Reach and The Westerlands.
The Dornish hold a deep hatred for The Westerlands because of them raping and murdering a notable member of their house that was wed to the Targaryens; her children were also murdered in the assault by none other than Ser Gregor Clegane. As they harbour hatred of this other kingdom, the Dornish people are just waiting for a chance to go to war with them and exact their revenge.
Location
Dorne is one of the major factions in Westeros in the mod A World of Ice and Fire. Sunspear is the capital city of Dorne.
Dorne contains the only desert on the entire continent of Westeros, and due to its arid climate, it has one of the smallest overall populations. It is the only part of Westeros where citrus fruits and spices grow. Dornish wine is also highly prized throughout all of Westeros, and considered to be among the best imports available.
Dorne is separated from the Stormlands by the Sea of Dorne and is surrounded by water on three sides.
Overland travel between the Dorne peninsula and the rest of Westeros is severely restricted due to the Red Mountains, a large mountain chain along Dorne’s northern and western borders, which possess only a few passes such as the Boneway and the Prince’s Pass. The rough valleys of the Red Mountains have been the site of border squabbles between Dorne, the Reach, and the Stormlands for the better part of the past thousand years. The salient of territory possessed by the Stormlands in the Red Mountains, along Dorne’s northern border, is thus called the Dornish Marches.
Central Dorne, east of the Red Mountains and west of the hills where the Greenblood river system begins, is completely inhospitable. It is a true rolling-sands desert, with little plant life and almost completely uninhabited by people, save for the occasional oasis-castle.
Dorne’s population is congregated around the coasts and the few major rivers such as the Greenblood. The valley of the Greenblood begins in the hills of eastern Dorne and continues east until it empties into the Narrow Sea. Even the eastern region of Dorne is arid, but irrigation in the river valleys makes it agriculturally productive.
Religion
Dorne worships the Seven-Faced God, more commonly referred to as the Faith of the Seven.
Members of the Faith worship the Seven Who Are One, a single deity with seven aspects or faces. For the less educated, however, this concept is often difficult to grasp, often causing them to believe that there are indeed seven different gods. Depending on their need, worshippers pray to specific faces of the Seven.

Unique, Heritage-Based Perks
The player can recruit the following special, elite troops if Dorne is chosen as the starting people:
- Dornish Houseguard can be recruited from an NPC in the Lord’s Hall of Sunspear if starting people is Dorne AND if renown is high enough (at least 1,000 renown). It costs 10,000 stags and 14 days to get 5 Dornish House Guards.

Unique Companions

Sand Warrior Joining Event
- Potential, random boon event where a warband of Sand Warriors joins if certain conditions are met: the player’s renown is high enough, the player is travelling through the desert in Dornish territory, and the player’s starting people/heritage is set to Dornish at the beginning of the game.
Recruiting Units from Dorne
In order to recruit Dorne units from villages you own as an independent kingdom, you will need to select a Dornish race on character creation. Dorne units can be recruited from villages regardless of player status unless they are hostile to Dorne. Additional ways to recruit Dorne units are to rescue them from enemy lords’ parties, find them in taverns, or rescue them from enemy garrisons.
Trivia
- Dorne is the only kingdom to have not been officially conquered by the Targaryens (Daeron invaded and defeated but this was suppressed and overthrown within a year).
- Dorne is the least inhabited kingdom in Westeros besides The Iron Islands.
- Dorne fields no navy since their ships were all burned in the Targaryen Conquests.
- Dorne will not become involved in the war until House Targaryen lands in Westeros.
